My First Solo Jewelry

I have yet another hobby and it took me by surprise. It’s jewelry making and I really like it so far. I have been taking a class that is just now getting done. I liked it enough that I bought a bunch of supplies and setup my own shop in the basement. On Friday night I started, and by Saturday afternoon I was 100% done with a new pair of moonstone earnings that were just sheet silver a day before. These are just simple studs without any decoration but that was at the request of the lovely Katie. She is away for the weekend on a trip and I can’t wait to see these shine on her.

The picture was taken with poor light with my iPhone so I apologize for that. I did 3 buffing / polishing steps and these have a mirror finish. The material they are made of is a mix of sterling silver for the back and fine silver for the bezel. Of course the stone is just moonstone.

Daft Punk Helmet 2.0

My brother and I have been working on this helmet for a while now and this is the more “production” version. I have yet to actually wear this out in public but I theoretically could for quite a while because the battery life is about 12 hours now! We also created a ground up LED driver board. Honestly, I am not really in the typey typey mood so just watch the video. I explain it all there. K thanks bye.

Working with Copper, Go Team Venture!

V in Copper

I have been taking a Jewelry class and the first thing I made was a V from the Venture Brothers cut out from roofing copper. The V I cut out was actually the scrap and you can see where I cut into the piece to get my saw in. This is my first foray into metalworking of any kind and I am really liking it.

I am going to take the reverse of this V and solder it to another sheet of copper I will cut out, then tarnish for contrast. I have read that miracle grow works well to give it a green appearance.

Other than copper, I am now starting to work with silver. The stakes are a little higher with silver but things are looking good so far.
