Shrine – Photo 52 Project [Week 17]

My girlfriend’s dad is a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan and his basement is good indicator. This picture does not really even do it justice. I helped him install the projector and AV equipment a few years back and there is hardly an inch where there is not some kind of KC memorabilia. When falls rolls around, just about every Sunday is spent down there cheering on the Chiefs.

There is a separate audio system that is setup ready to play a custom mixed CD with sounds from the stadium. When a touchdown is scored, the strobes and beacons are lit, and Queen’s, “We will rock you” plays at a exuberant volume.

Crosswalk – Photo 52 Project [Week 16]

I found myself in Chicago for the second weekend in a row and I had to take advantage of the visit. I never seem to grab images with people. It is easier to frame up a shot when there are no people in the way. It is pretty awkward to take a picture of strangers in the street. Everyone knows in the back of their mind that they are always on camera when out on the street in an urban area. When there is an actual person pointing a camera though, that is different.

This picture was taken under the L train by a busy crosswalk. I tried to tuck myself against a building but people still looked at me like I was a creep or something.

Chicago – Photo 52 Project [Week 15]

Jesse, Mari Ann, and I went to Chicago for the weekend. This was the view from the hotel and I think I got this just during magic hour where it is not quite day or night yet. I love that time of day because it just slips through your fingers and turns into night just before you realize.

We ate great food, saw a show at the IO Theater in Wrigleyville, and viewed original works of art at the Art Institute of Chicago. I have to say the Art Institute left a big impression on me. Seeing original Van Gogh paintings was amazing. Seeing the depth of the brush strokes, size, and the true colors a famous painting let me appreciate art more than I was expecting. Seeing something on a page or screen gives you easy access, but there is usually more to be felt with an original work.
