Turtles – Photo 52 Project [Week 18]

I finally opened a box of my old toys from when I was little. They were sealed in a very large Bekins moving box that had remained sealed until this week. I was not really sure what to expect from the UN-boxing. I find it amazing how your brain stores information. I could only name a handful of toys before I opened that old box but as soon as I did, they were all familiar and I instantly remembered playing with them in the basement of my Carlyle home.

For some reason though, I was expecting a bunch of toys in near new condition like they were when I was so excited to start playing with them as a kid. They were dull, marked, and had a lot of little parts missing. Then I realized that I actually played with them and that fact was quickly visible.

This picture was taken in my homemade light box. They could barely stand up by themselves so it was a challenge to not knock them over while positioning the rest.

Shrine – Photo 52 Project [Week 17]

My girlfriend’s dad is a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan and his basement is good indicator. This picture does not really even do it justice. I helped him install the projector and AV equipment a few years back and there is hardly an inch where there is not some kind of KC memorabilia. When falls rolls around, just about every Sunday is spent down there cheering on the Chiefs.

There is a separate audio system that is setup ready to play a custom mixed CD with sounds from the stadium. When a touchdown is scored, the strobes and beacons are lit, and Queen’s, “We will rock you” plays at a exuberant volume.

Crosswalk – Photo 52 Project [Week 16]

I found myself in Chicago for the second weekend in a row and I had to take advantage of the visit. I never seem to grab images with people. It is easier to frame up a shot when there are no people in the way. It is pretty awkward to take a picture of strangers in the street. Everyone knows in the back of their mind that they are always on camera when out on the street in an urban area. When there is an actual person pointing a camera though, that is different.

This picture was taken under the L train by a busy crosswalk. I tried to tuck myself against a building but people still looked at me like I was a creep or something.
